“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
-Hippocrates
What if you only ate foods that also had medicinal value? It may seem odd to us now, but that is exactly what food is for. Somehow we confused the real reason to eat - to nourish and heal - with a fake and manufactured reason - to satisfy cravings. In this weekly series, I will talk about whole foods that heal. That gives you a new food to try each week - so you can feel the benefits for yourself.
This week's food:
Apricots
Vitamins: A, C
Minerals: Potassium, Copper
Apricots have antioxidants that help your eyes. Yes, carotenoids help prevent macular degeneration. They're great for pregnant women and those with anemics. They are also great natural laxatives.
It's easier to get dried apricots since ripe ones have such a short shelf life. They make great snacks - especially as an alternative to sweet snacks.
