“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
-Hippocrates
What if you only ate foods that also had medicinal value? It may seem odd to us now, but that is exactly what food is for. Somehow we confused the real reason to eat - to nourish and heal - with a fake and manufactured reason - to satisfy cravings. In this weekly series, I will talk about whole foods that heal. That gives you a new food to try each week - so you can feel the benefits for yourself.
This week's food:
Almonds
Vitamins - B,E
Minerals - Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Phosphorus
Almonds come from the peach and apricot family. They are one of the most nutritious nuts, and they alkalize the body. (An alkaline system is important in the prevention of cancer.) They are high in protein and minerals. You can eat them raw, or in butter or milk form. (My niece, Sara, loves Almond Milk!) If you have a blender or food processor, you can make your own almond butter very easily.
Raw Almonds are better - but there is considerable controversy over the authenticity of raw almonds on the market.
Try raw almonds as a snack this week - instead of chips or popcorn.
(Almond oil is also good for dry skin.)
