In its most moral definition, integrity means to be free from corruption  - to be innocent, sinless. It's much easier to define it than it is to live it.


The Oxford English Dictionary states that the first person to use "integrity" in English print is the Calvinist, Thomas Norton. I have been using instant coffee applied with paintbrushes and makeup sponges. I like that these paintings are not clear-coated, so if they get wet, they're gone. Below are a few of those paintings.




The first one I ever tried is called "Morning Pain." This one hangs in my bathroom.

I'm sure it will be (or already had been) sprayed with some horribly toxic pesticide (that will eventually be in the water table). But did you know that many weeds, like bull thistle, are edible? Before my tour, I knew very little of Vishnu. In fact, the only Indian god I was aware of was Ganesh.

Leticia's  (on Gallatin Pike) has some of the most amazing tacos I've ever had. (Their health department score is 98!) The place doesn't look like a 5 star restaurant by any means - but the food speaks for itself. Try it. Growing sprouts indoors is really easy. I use mung beans (you can get them in a bag at almost any grocery store).  Here's the easy way to grow your own sprouts at home:


1.  Put a small amount in any size mason jar and soak for the first 8 hours in water.

2.  Drain in the morning.

3.  Every morning rinse out your beans.

“They’re coming,” the man said.
“Who?” Someone asked in the darkness.
“Nobody.”
Everything went even blacker; and even though the man was still standing there in his suit, in the darkness, the room seemed empty. Who was nobody? And why was the man so serious?  And who dared to ask such a silly question?

I’m sitting at the kitchen counter reading passages from The Koran in my Western Lit text and writing notes on how I will present it to my students back in Alabama. None of them have read The Koran. I’m sure that some of my more religious students will be reluctant to read it lest they are corrupted by the Muslim text.

This is my first morning waking up as a quasi-resident of Nashville. The plan is to move here – to Big Red - in December.
